Aw, Did I Hurt Your "Wittle" Feelings?

Back in the day, you actually had to insult someone and / or their family members in order to start an argument or a fight. These days, just disagreeing with someone can get the evil eye shot your way. That's right. Freedom of speech? Hmmph! Just your opinion can set someone off. The U.S. is so politically correct now that you can't even speak what you think is the truth.

This country is gone softer than a rain-soaked marshmellow in 100 degree weather.

What happened to having "tough skin?" What happened to "sticks and stones?" What happened to "agreeing to disagree?" I've seen "friends" on Twitter unfollow one another because of a disagreement about someone neither of them actually knew. Two ladies were going back and forth arguing about the music group, Maroon 5. One lady liked them, but the other one didn't think they were that talented of a group. The lady who liked them got so upset that M5 were being called "non-talented" that she blocked the other lady from her tweets.

Wait. What?

A) You're angrily defending someone you don't even know.
B) You're blocking someone on Twitter that you do know.
C) You're doing all of the above simply because someone disagrees with you.

Wow. How sad is your life? A person can't even disagree with someone now without some sort of retribution. This is the society that we live in today. I've had people unfollow my blog because of an opinion I had that may have hit too close to home for them. I've had other black people call me a "sellout" if I disagree with Obama on something. I had someone take a personal shot at me by calling me "old" because I made a comment about a young, talentless rapper. "Aw, did I hurt your wittle feelings when I said that Soulja Boy sucked?"

"Was it when I said that having seven kids by five guys may lead to the children being non-productive in life that caused a boo-boo on your ego?"

"Or was it me saying that if Troy Davis was as good-looking as Casey Anthony that he might still be alive today that stings you?"

Well, if that's the way things are going to be, then it's going to be a cold and lonely country 20 years from now. No one will ever talk to anyone else because eventually, they'll say something that disagrees with them. As for me, I'm going to keep on speaking my mind. It's what I do. Not out of malice, but out of disgust and concern.

And if it has absolutely nothing to do with you and / or your family, then to quote the youngsters: "Why you mad? Does the wittle baby need a cookie-wookie to turn that frown upside down?"

  1. I have no patience for overly sensitive people and have never been good at biting my tongue. I say what I think/feel and if you don't like it then it is your right to walk away from me. I usually just laugh when people go overboard or get all defensive. I could never imagine blocking/fighting with a real life friend over somebody we don't even know. I am a big fan of "agreeing to disagree" and while sometimes words do hurt, if you know I didn't say it with a mean intention then suck it up...ya big baby!

  2. How dare you say that people are overly sensitive & unable to accept the differing opinions of their own!?! How dare you indeed, sir?! This statement offends me! Where the heck is that "unfollow" button?!

Kidding! Can I still have a cookie?

  3. @ Jewels - I agree. It's not that I set out to hurt people's feelings (other than politicians), but if I make a comment that just happens to be about someone or something they like, why get mad?

@ Vinny - LOL! I first started reading your comment and I was like "really?" Then I saw the end. LOL! Nice example!

@ Jewels, you know how to make cookies, don't you?

  4. I should say something against Justin Bieber here, so I can have thousands of teenage girls threatening to end my life...

Seriously, why is saying "ABC sucks" so taboo but someone replying with "I'm going to fucking KILL YOU for saying that" ok?

  5. @ LiI - I don't know, B. I have no idea where all of this went wrong. Some where in the internet age, I guess. Now that there's an outlet for people to speak their mind, everyone appears to be opposed to it. Unless you agree with them, of course.

Also, if you say something against Beiber, I'll be forced to delete your comment. I can't have teen aged girls coming after me for something that you said. LOL!

  6. Q, I seriously love you. In that bloggers who rock and need to be shown the love kind of way.:) Virtual high-five! I am totally amazed at the number of people who do not realize that someone else's viewpoint is not an indictment of the viewpoints of others. It's just a personal belief and that is OK!!

Frankly, the person who unfriended someone over a disagreement about M5 was doing the unfriended one a favor. I would not want to be anywhere near someone who was that sensitive about a music group. Geeze, get some perspective people!

  7. @ Lawfrog - * blush * I happen to like Maroon 5, so maybe I should have unfriended that lady, too. LOL! Some people don't have perspective. Sure, there are some things that shouldn't be said due to the emotions that come with it (don't hate on soldiers or 9/11, talk about someone who just died, etc.). Although a person should have the right to speak that, it still could be an emotional retaliation against that from the masses. So, you have to be sensible, but it's still a right.

  8. I like a good debate and can't understand it when people get mad at my opinions. Hey, I have a right to my opinion.

  9. @ Belle - Yeah, at least I thought that we all did. Now, an opinion can cost a person a job or standing. Even if it's accurate.

  10. Q...I get the evil eye a LOT (for WHATEVER reason, people "react" in a strange manner to some of the shit that comes out of my mouth. LOL). But, I, like you, think that people have gotten WAY too sensitive. If you haven't already heard of this guy (Felonious Munk) - he has this one bit on "The Pussification of America" (yes...I said it...the PUSSIFICATION!!) that is hella funny...and HELLA true! Check it out:

  11. @ Reck - Dag, and I was trying to coin the phrase "Punkification of America." I watched that video and Felonious Monk is on-point! His take on kids sitting in front of Madden and being on a diet was too funny. LOL! I'm subscribing to him! Thanks!

  12. Blogs that tell it like it is or isn't afraid to speak their mind has my deepest respect as do any other blog. What compels me more to blogs with a little more salt? Courage.

There is a time and a place for everything, but it's your delivery that will be the deciding factor in how a person will respond. Most times I chalk it up as them not wanting to "hear the truth", or they are just appalled that someone can be so bold.

We all have our own way to communicating and that is what is so great about us. If we were all the same, how boring would that be? I had a person disagree with a statement I said, and I had to sit back and think about how I was going to respond. Instead of an instant "pip slap" that I would have loved to give them, I came back with a response that eventually silenced them. I was so nice it made others respond in how I responded.

Life isn't a bowl of cheerios. There is always going to be someone that won't like what you say or do. Focus on what is most important in your life and everything else is pointless.

...Eventually they will get over it.
