Sleep Is Being Destroyed

This is part three of a five-part series entitled "The Silent Collapse of Men in the Smart Phone Era". It's based on a series of discussions I've had with men who are friends or relatives. The men's ages range from 23 - 51 years old. I'd love your feedback.

Sleep Is Being Destroyed

Men are staying awake later than ever:

  • scrolling sports debates (I'm guilty of this)
  • gaming
  • gambling
  • watching highlight clips (Guilty again)
  • arguing online
  • consuming rage content (Been there. Done that.)

Then they wake up exhausted, irritable, mentally foggy, and disconnected from their families.

A tired man becomes a short-tempered husband.
A distracted man becomes a distant father.
An emotionally absent man becomes a stranger in his own house.

And most of it starts with “just checking my phone for a few minutes.”

We have to learn how to disconnect because it's taking way too much of a toll on our lives and families. The glow of the phone lighting up the bedroom every night is a sign that you no longer have control over your life. You have to prioritize sleep in order to function in a society that is more chaotic everyday than it was just one week prior.

This world will chew you up and spit you out if you don't rest. And filling your subconscious with endless content right before bed won't allow you to truly unwind thus always keeping you on edge.

Part 2: Hustle Culture Is Burning Men Out

Part 4: Rage Is Becoming Entertainment
